The spectral efficiency of a wireless network can be increased by flexibly allocating the available resources, like bandwidth, carriers, or transceiver strategies. Ideally, this would require a dynamic optimization of the entire network, which is impractical due to the many degrees of freedom. In order to attack such cross-layer optimization problems, new mathematical models and tools are required.
In the Teropp project, we combine concepts from game theory with the theory of interference functions. The chosen approach facilitates an analytical investigation of performance trade-offs between users in a network. The goal is the development of resource allocation strategies that are jointly optimized with the underlying physical layer.
