Modulators

The modulator group is developing InP based modulators with travelling wave and segmented electrode designs. The modulator designs include Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZM) and phase modulators. The modulators achieve a 3 dB bandwidth beyond 50 GHz and low Vπ. Such high speed external modulators are the key components for metro and long haul fibre networks and microwave photonics. The modulators cover the wavelength range from the O- to the L-band (1250 nm to 1620 nm).
Recent activities on thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) (also known as LNOI) complete the modulator activities. The TFLN modulators extend the optical wavelength from 450 nm to 4500 nm. The devices are applied for high-speed modulation, quantum computing and for sensing application.
