The Image Processing group of Fraunhofer Institute of Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut presents:

Scalable Video Coding (SVC)

The most recent and highly efficient video coding standard H.264/AVC has recently been extended by scalability tools, developed mainly by researchers at Fraunhofer HHI. This so-called Scalable Video Coding (SVC) extension allows for decoding the same video content at variable resolutions, frame rates or image fidelity, just by extracting parts of a scalable bit stream, without any need for transcoding. As will be demonstrated, application areas of SVC include simultaneous transmission of multiple HD formats (720p/1080p) as well as Mobile TV at QVGA and VGA resolution.
