Easy 3DTV viewing pleasure (PRIME project)
Text
Live 3DTV broadcasting can’t always guarantee the same high-end stereo sound you’d get in a 3D cinema. As part of the PRIME project, the Heinrich Hertz Institute and Loewe AG are demonstrating novel types of 3DTV end device functionalities which automatically monitor the quality of received 3D material, alert users to critical 3D content and automatically correct annoying 3D distortions. What’s more, users themselves can now control picture depth via the remote control and adjust it to suit their own individual preferences and viewing environments.
‘PRIME Production and Projection Techniques for Immersive Media’ is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The 3D4YOU project will develop the key elements of a practical 3D television system, particularly, the definition of a 3D delivery format and guidelines for a 3D content creation process. The project generate 3D capture techniques, convert captured content for broadcasting and develop 3D coding for delivery via broadcast, i.e. suitable to transmit and make public. Its objective is to deliver an end-to-end system for 3D high quality media.
