New Scalable Video Coding Standardization completed

September 25, 2007

HHI’s Image Processing researchers delivered basic initial proposal to the now approved ITU/ISO/IEC Scalable Video Coding (SVC) standard.

SVC has been approved as an extension of the H.264/AVC standard. It provides functionalities for adaptation of bit rates to varying channel throughput capabilities as well as format or power adaptation to varying display and terminal types. Compared to previous scalable video coding solutions, SVC has achieved significant improvements in coding efficiency along with significant reductions in complexity making it highly attractive for many products.
