One key to efficient communication networks is an efficient utilization of scarce resources like power, time, frequency, space, codes, routes, etc. and an intelligent handling of signals of other subscribers. Thus, important mechanisms for resource allocation and interference management are multiple antenna techniques (Link to this part), medium access control(Link to this part), routing and congestion control. Our scope is to develop strategies for resource allocation and interference management. Typical approaches aim at maximizing an aggregate utility or at satisfying strict QoS requirements or at a combinations of both aims. The figure shows exemplary the gains that can be achieved applying sophisticated strategies for resource allocation and interference management.
Fig.: Appetizer. In the left picture the gain of power control is exemplarily shown. The incorporation of queue states significantly increases the performance. The right picture shows the gain that a joint power control and receive beamforming strategy can achieve. Here the joint power control and receive beamforming strategy maximizes the minimum SINR of the users and thus provides max-min-fairness among the users.
