Presented by Fraunhofer HHI's research department Wireless Communication and Networks (WN). Spectrum and Infrastructure Sharing have significant potential to increase the data rates in mobile networks further. Using a common infrastructure enables mobile operators to close their coverage holes in a complementary fashion, such as in rural areas. After each network is rolled out completely, infrastructure sharing doubles the density of base stations and the network capacity of each operator likewise. By sharing the spectrum, short-term fluctuations of the load in both networks can be mutually exploited (statistical multiplex). At GSMA 2012, Fraunhofer HHI demonstrates the basic technology of load- and channel-dependent spectrum sharing between two operators in a live demonstration over LTE.

HTTP Streaming over LTE using DASH
Fraunhofer HHI's research departments Image Processing (IP) and Wireless Communication and Networks (WN) jointly show optimized LTE resource management for HTTP streaming video based on the MPEG DASH standard. This approach allows a cost-optimal use of LTE's radio resources while maintaining the best possible video experience for each user. Web services are typically not under control of the network operator because they are run as web app over the top. However HHI's new cross-layer approach DASH over LTE allows optimization of web video services over wireless.
