Photonics West 2012

The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute participates at this year's Photonics West exhibition, the largest trade fair for photonics in North America, from January 24 - 26 at booth 4601-35 in the German Pavilion.

Fraunhofer HHI shows a live demo of the TeraWave2, a THz time domain spectrometer (TDS), as well as an integrated optical sensor array for biochemical multiparameter analysis.

Every year professional buyers, industrial representatives, scientists and researchers come to the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, to trade the latest information in the fields of photonics.

TeraWave 2

The TeraWave 2, a THz time domain spectrometer (TDS) comprising a turnkey control unit and flexible fiber coupled emitter and receiver heads. It exploits mature 1.55 µm wavelength fiber telecom technologies and HHIs well established InGaAs/InAlAs photoconductive THz antennas. The system has a bandwidth of up to 4 THz and supports real time measurements. The robust and environmentally protected all-fibre based build guaranties reliable operation even in an industrial environment.

Integrated optical sensor array for biochemical multiparameter analysis

Integrated optical sensor array for biochemical multiparameter analysis

HHI's innovative sensor concept focuses on applications in healthcare, bioanalytics and security. Our integrated optical sensor platform is based on arrays of individually addressable optical micro-resonators for label-free multiparameter-detection of germs and molecules and trace analysis of hazardous materials. Examples include: Online screening to identify germs (incoming patient inspection in hospitals), Security checks; i.e., detecting dangerous goods (explosives)

FOmacs

FOmacs

FOmacs@ Fiber Optical measurement and control system Femtosecond laser writing is used for fabrication of Fiber-Bragg-Gratings (FBGs) into telecom fibers. Combination with new Arrayed-Waveguide-Gratings (AWGs) technologies gives a cost-efficient, compact, rugged and completely fiber-coupled FBG-AWG device with low energy consumption. Such new sensor devices allows online and insitu monitoring of temperature, mechanical stress and vibration.
