The 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall – we join in the Festival of Freedom!

The Heinrich Hertz Institute contributes a domino slab to the program “The 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall – German History with a Domino Effect” on 9 November. The Heinrich Hertz Institute has sent its trainees and staff on a journey back in time in its special program “Fragments of Memory – How did employees of the Institute experience the 9 November 1989?" In talks with colleagues and guests of the Institute, the trainees – who were nearly all born after 1989 – spent a day asking staff at the Heinrich Hertz Institute for their personal recollections of the day the Berlin Wall came down and what they associate with it. The young trainees collected all these fragments of living memory, added their own experiences or the recollections of their families and presented the whole in the form of a collage on a giant domino stone. As a Berlin research institute, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute attaches great importance to commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and to participating in its symbolic demolition.
