Smart Production Environment

At this year’s Hannover Messe, the Fraunhofer HHI will be presenting a smart production environment that has been developed in cooperation with other Fraunhofer Institutes as part of the Digital Networking Performance Center. Fraunhofer HHI contributes its expertise in real-time capable production and analysis of high-resolution 3D video data, which are used in human-robot interaction. These technologies enable the accurate recording of the position of components as well as the gestures of the worker. Hence, it follows that the previously very complex process of robot programming can now be performed by simple hand gestures directly on the robot and component. Furthermore, the captured components can be incorporated directly into virtual simulations in the Digital Twin.

Live Demonstration: Terahertz sensing

T-Sweeper: Realtime cw Terahertz spectroscopy

Terahertz radiation is increasingly employed for process monitoring and material inspection in industry. The layer thickness of coatings, the structure of polymers or imperfections in non-conductive materials can be investigated.

Fraunhofer HHI presents a live demonstration of the novel spectrometer T-Sweeper, which enhances the speed of cw terahertz spectroscopy by a factor 160 compared to state-of-the-art systems: 8 spectra per second with a bandwidth of more than 2 THz can be acquired. This makes cw THz systems a cost-efficient alternative to pulsed systems.

IC4F - Industrial Communication for Factories

IC4F addresses the required confluence of information and communications technology as well as automation for upcoming use cases in the scope of Industry 4.0, i.e., the Industrial Internet. In particular, IC4F aims to build a reference architecture for communication technologies and a modular technology toolkit for a reliable industry communication and computing infrastructure.
