NAB Show 2026
APR 2026
18 - 22
Las Vegas, USA
Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI) is a world leader in the development of mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as processing and coding of video signals. Together with international partners from research and industry, Fraunhofer HHI works in the whole spectrum of digital infrastructure – from basic research to the development of prototypes and solutions.
At NAB Show 2026, Fraunhofer HHI presents the latest developments in Video Communication and Applications at the booth of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft W2343, West Hall on April 18-22 in Las Vegas, USA.
Trustworthy authentication for compressed video data
Detecting deepfakes and restoring trust in video authenticity
Experience the next evolution in video security with the latest video coding standard H.266/Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Fraunhofer HHI has developed a method by which compressed video bitstreams can be authenticated using digital signatures – thus enabling trustworthy authentication at elementary stream level. It can therefore be applied in many important use cases that are not covered by existing technologies like C2PA. The authentication method is based on supplemental enhancement information (SEI) messages specified in H.274/VSEI and available by referencing it in H.266/VVC, H.265/HEVC and H.264/AVC.
The NAB 2026 showcase comprises an integration of the authentication method into real products. On the commercial side, Spin Digital Labs applies it for trustworthy live monitoring in their high performance codec products. On the open-source side, Fluendo has implemented the technology in the GStreamer open-source multimedia framework.
Spin Digital: 4K HEVC and VVC Encoding
Spin Digital is a Fraunhofer HHI startup that offers a solution for high-performance video codecs and tools for ultra-high-definition media, including 4K, 8K, and VR, enabling advanced video processing and playback.
The 4K HEVC and VVC encoding technology features ultra-optimized CPU-based software encoders, industry-leading compression efficiency, and state-of-the-art rate control and perceptual coding algorithms. It was designed for VoD, live, and low-latency applications.
