From January 8 to 9, 2020, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI hosted a workshop for experts in data quality, data handling, and AI model evaluation in the healthcare field. The workshop was coordinated by the two working groups “Data and AI Solution Assessment Methods” (WG-DAISAM) and “Data and AI Solution Handling” (WG-DASH) belonging to the ITU/WHO Focus Group on “AI for Health” (FG-AI4H).
The workshop was organized in three parallel sessions with presentations and discussions around AI model testing, data quality, and assessment platform requirements. Focus Group chair Prof. Thomas Wiegand, Executive Director of Fraunhofer HHI, explained: “The FG-AI4H is diving deep into the quality and other aspects connected to AI for health. It is great to see such strong participation in the workshop which will advance the field of AI methods in particular for regulatory processes of AI for health.”
The event drew participants from all over the world, e.g. several organizations from Ghana such as the Center for Research, Information, Technology and Advanced Computing, the Ghana Technology University College and minoHealth. Further participants were the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, (Switzerland), and the Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary Systems Lab (Bangladesh). Also participants from Germany, the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Robert Koch Institute, the Hasso Plattner Institute, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, and the National Metrology Institute of Germany took part in the event. In addition, remote participants joined from many more locations, for example from India and the United Kingdom.
The workshop closed with a summary of results from the parallel sessions. These results will be discussed during the upcoming workshop/meeting of the FG-AI4H in Brazil (January 21 to 24. 2020) and will be incorporated into the deliverables (documentation and software) of the FG-AI4H.
