Fraunhofer HHI presents the latest developments at the IFA, IBC and ECOC

In September, the month of fairs, the Fraunhofer HHI presents its technologies and solutions at three fairs to curious technic fans und interested expert audience.

The opening event is the IFA from September 2 to 7 in Berlin. Afterwards the expert from Fraunhofer HHI will be joining the IBC from September 9 to 13 in Amsterdam. At these two fairs the Fraunhofer HHI presents the latest developments in acquisition and processing of ultra high definition video and virtual reality.

In cooperation with the German TV-Platform the Fraunhofer HHI presents a 360 degree production for television. IFA visitors can experience a “stern TV” broadcast as part of the studio audience via Virtual Reality. Supported by the OmniCam-360 from Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, recordings for the RTL Media Group were made before and during the live show. IFA visitors can experience a "stern TV" broadcast as part of the studio audience via Virtual Reality. Supported by the OmniCam-360 from Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, recordings for the RTL Media Group were made before and during the live show. With Virtual Reality glasses, visitors can even stand in the RTL studio and experience the show in a 360 degree panoramic video. The viewer gets the impression of being in the studio and getting addressed directly by the presenter.

Furthermore, the 3D human body reconstruction technology of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute will be presented at the IFA and IBC. This technology captures real persons with multiple cameras at the same time and creates naturally moving dynamic 3D models. Afterwards, they can be integrated in computer graphics virtual worlds or real scenes. The human 3D models can be manipulated to change their viewing direction, movements and animation.

Moreover, the scientists of the Fraunhofer HHI present at the IBC the technology Tile Based HEVC Video for VR. Lightweight merging of HEVC Tiles allows to easily adapt the 360° video data stream to the current VR user viewport without transcoding to significantly reduce the required data rates.

Finally, at this year's ECOC from September 19 to 21st, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI presents its latest solutions in the area of photonic components and photonic networks and systems. The experts present InP Foundry Services, InP-Laser for the Integration of InP Lasers for Integration into Silicon Photonics, PolyBoard Foundry Services, LED based Optical Wireless Backhaul Link, Optical Wireless Links for industrial M2M applications and real-time Digital Signal Processing Platform for Terabit Transmission.
