Niklas Gard, research associate in the Computer Vision & Graphics group of the Vision and Imaging Technologies (VIT) department at Fraunhofer HHI, successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Efficient 6D Pose Estimation for Augmented Reality through Hybrid Methods and Domain-Invariant Matching” with honors at the Chair of Visual Computing at Humboldt University in Berlin in November.
In his work, he developed innovative methods for highly accurate 6DoF camera pose estimation from images. The results include, among other things:
• new methods for 3D tracking in projective augmented reality applications,
• AI-based approaches for real-time tracking of multiple objects,
• and novel methods for precise indoor localization.
The research has already been successfully published at renowned international conferences and in specialist journals such as ECCV, BMVC, and TVCG, and has been very well received by the scientific community.
Fraunhofer HHI congratulates Niklas Gard on this outstanding achievement and wishes him continued success in his scientific career.
