Video Communication and Applications

The Video Communication and Applications Department (VCA) addresses all aspects in the research fields of image and video coding, transport of multimedia data, embedded multimedia processing, communication protocols for cellular networks as well as the efficient representation of neural networks. 

The department has contributed significantly to the entire development process of three generations of video coding standards, including their major enhancement extensions, and their related transport and storage formats: H.264/Advanced Video Coding (AVC), H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and H.266/Versatile Video Coding (VVC).
