At IBC 2026, Fraunhofer HHI presents the latest developments in Video Communication and Applications at booth B80 in Halle 8 on September 11-14 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Trustworthy authentication for compressed video data

Video Authenticity with Standardized Digital Signatures

Digitally Signed Content protects the authenticity of live video directly in H.265/HEVC workflows. By linking video with verifiable provenance data, it helps prove what is real and what has been altered. This enables secure, transparent, and trusted media production from capture to delivery.

Fraunhofer HHI will demonstrate a complete live workflow for trusted video authenticity and provenance at booth 8.B80. The demo shows the full chain from live H.265/ HEVC video encoding to Digitally Signed Content (DSC), verification and provenance handling. DSC is based on supplemental enhancement information (SEI) messages specified in H.274/VSEI and available by referencing it in H.266/VVC, H.265/HEVC and H.264/AVC. In the workflow, the C2PA manifest containing provenance and authenticity information can be embedded into DSC, linking signed video content with verifiable metadata.

A key highlight is that DSC now runs live in an end-to-end chain with H.265/HEVC. The live demo is enabled by Fluendo’s implementation of the technology in the GStreamer open-source multimedia framework.

High-Precision Spatial Audio Capture with Spherical and Planar Microphone Arrays

New Possibilities for Immersive Audio Applications with the IP-Based MicA Platform

Experience the next generation of spatial sound capture with the new microphone arrays from Fraunhofer HHI. At IBC 2026, the spherical MicA system and the next-generation planar array will be presented in live operation for the first time.

The spherical array features an arrangement of 60 microphones and enables spatially precise sound field capture across the entire audible frequency range up to 20 kHz. This forms the basis for high-resolution beamforming, precise sound source localization, and higher-order Ambisonics.

The planar array provides 64 microphone channels. Both systems transmit all raw data in real time over AES67 and can be flexibly combined with each other due to nanosecond-accurate PTP synchronization. In addition, they can be paired with GigE Vision cameras featuring 4K resolution and 180 frames per second for the simultaneous capture of audio and video content.

The scalable, IP-based architecture is suitable for immersive media, broadcast productions, and conferencing applications. In addition, it enables general acoustic detection, classification, and tracking of sound-emitting objects.
