Saleem Alreesh completed his doctoral dissertation with the title “Multidimensional Modulation Formats for Optical Transmission Systems“ at the TU Berlin with magna cum laude. The dissertation was written as part of the DFG project “4D-Modulation Method” in cooperation with the department Photonic Networks and Systems at Fraunhofer HHI. Examiners were Prof. Hans-Joachim Grallert (TU Berlin/ Fraunhofer HHI), Prof. Norbert Hanik (TU München) und Dr. Henning Bülow (Nokia Bell Labs Stuttgart).

Salem Alreesh examined novel multidimensional coded methods of modulation for the application of optical communication technology, in particular for the realization of rate adaptive, coherent transponders. Modulation methods based on multidimensional grids as well as multidimensional trellis-coded modulation methods have been analysed and experimentally validated.

From 2010 to 2017, Salem Alreesh worked in the department of Photonic Networks and Systems at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in the field of modulation and digital signal processing for flexible communications systems.
