The European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) recognized the Fraunhofer HHI researchers Pooyan Safari and Behnam Shariati with the Best DEMO Award at this year’s virtual ECOC conference.
The researchers who work in the institute’s Photonic Networks and Systems department received the award for their contribution “Demonstration of Federated Learning over Edge-Computing Enabled Metro Optical Networks” which was well received by the conference audience. The demo was based on the same name scientific paper also co-authored by A. Mitrovska, N. Hashemi, J. K. Fischer, and R. Freund. Every year the ECOC organizers select and highlight the best demo presented during demo sessions at the show.
This year it was the unusual case that there were two best demos. The award winners were announced during the ECOC closing ceremony on December 10, 2020. This year’s conference was held virtually from December 6 – 10, 2020. ECOC is the largest conference on optical communication in Europe. It provides a prime forum for new developments and results in optical communication techniques and networks.
