"5G & Beyond Day" - The future of mobile communications technology highlighted at the 4th #Berlin5GWeek

November 12, 2019

As part of this year's #Berlin5GWeek  from November 4 to 8, 2019, future mobile communications technologies were discussed for the fourth time. For the first time, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) participated with two events in the program initiated by Fraunhofer FOKUS. This year's 5G Week opened in Berlin with the first "5G & Beyond Day", organized by Fraunhofer HHI.

While Millimeter Waves & Massive MIMO, V2X communication, and RAN standardization form the foundation of 5G, upcoming 6G technologies are already in the pipeline. In line with the motto "How innovative network technologies are changing our world", the next generation of mobile communication was the focus of the "5G & Beyond Day". Cutting-edge talks and keynotes held by speakers from industry and science highlighted and discussed the latest advances and developments.

Dr.-Ing. Thomas Haustein, Head of the Department “Wireless Communications and Networks” at Fraunhofer HHI, opened the event and introduced the Fraunhofer HHI and the concept of the #Berlin5GWeek. In the course of the day, the areas of 5G standardization, network virtualization, the latest developments and test fields as well as future developments were examined in talks and fruitful discussions. The subsequent demo show and lab tour gave the participants deeper insights into the work of Fraunhofer HHI in addition to practical prototypes and hardware setups. Finally, the guests discussed the topics of the day at a networking dinner.

Further events at the fourth #Berlin5GWeek were the AI for 5G & Beyond Day, hosted by Fraunhofer HHI and organized by the "ITU-T Focus Group on Machine Learning for Future Networks including 5G" (FG-ML5G), the 3rd Industrial IoT Forum  (How TSN, OPC UA and Edge Computing Shape the Future of Industry 4.0 Communications), and the FUSECO Forum  (5G Reality Check: State Of Play In 5G Technologies, Applications & How To Start With 5G), both organized and hosted by Fraunhofer FOKUS .
