Ronald Freund from Fraunhofer HHI offers tutorial at SubOptic 2019

April 4, 2019

The four-day conference series SubOptic will take place in New Orleans, USA, from April 8 to 11, 2019. Ronald Freund, head of Photonic Networks and Systems at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI, was invited to the conference for a master class tutorial on the latest transmission technologies for underwater communication systems.

The focus of Suboptic 2019 is: "To The Beach And Beyond - Rethinking Global Networks". The tutorial with Ronald Freund, Tony Frisch (Xtera Ltd., UK) and Masaaki Hiran (Sumitomo Electric, Japan) fits into this context. It highlights in particular the application of new fibers, amplifier and transceiver technologies to increase the transmission capacity for future submarine cables.

SubOptic is a non-profit association, which is active in the international communication industry for underwater maritime traffic. It organizes the conference series of the same name, taking place every three years. SubOptic 2019 is the tenth in this series and provides participants with a forum for discussing ideas, exchanging non-competitive information, promoting knowledge and raising awareness of telecommunications issues relevant to the underwater sector.
