Milestone birthdays: Celebrations at the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut

January 30, 2018

1958-2018

On the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the first HHI building, the Institute invited the public to an "Open House Day" in March 1960, during which the public could get to know the research work of the institution. Additionally, a festive colloquium was held. The organizers were able to win Prof. Dr. Dr.-Ing. Erwin Meyer as a keynote speaker, one of the first department heads of the Institute.

In May 1978 the 50th birthday of HHI was celebrated. At a two-day celebration, representatives from politics, business and science came together to listen to lectures, toast the anniversary together and exchange ideas on current research topics. At that time, the latter included work on cable television and integrated networks with optical channels. In addition to the ceremony, the Institute once again opened its doors to interested citizens.

2018 was the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Institute. Fraunhofer HHI celebrated this venerable birthday with a "Technology Innovation Science Match" at Kosmos Berlin, where researchers from all over the world presented new technologies with a focus on the work of Fraunhofer HHI to about 1,000 visitors.
