OpTecBB starts ZIM network “AgriPhotonik” with 29 partners from Israel and Germany

April 2, 2020

Optec-Berlin-Brandenburg (OpTecBB) e.V. has received the official notification of funding for the international ZIM network “AgriPhotonik - Wissensbasierte, standortangepasste und nachhaltige Pflanzenproduktion mittels optischer Verfahren” (knowledge-based, site-adapted, and sustainable plant production using optical methods). The project can thus be started retrospectively from January 1, 2020.

In the framework of AgriPhotonik, practical, digital, optical technologies for sustainable agricultural processes from sowing to the (pre)processed product are developed. Applications of optical sensors are particularly attractive here because they allow for non-destructive measurement in production and post-harvest processes. "This is a pioneering milestone for photonics in Brandenburg and Berlin," says Prof. Martin Schell, chairman of the board of OptecBB and executive director of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI. "My thanks go to Dr. Frank Lerch, director of OptecBB, and Dr. Janina Bolling, project manager at OpTecBB, who have succeeded in creating an illustrious consortium of renowned scientific and economic partners. We are looking forward to the interesting research results which we expect AgriPhotonik to achieve in the coming years.”

About OpTecBB e.V.

Optec-Berlin-Brandenburg (OpTecBB) e.V.  is the competence network for optical technologies and microsystem technology in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. OpTecBB e.V. was founded in 2000 by companies, research institutions, universities, and associations with the support of the responsible state ministries of Brandenburg and the Berlin Senate. Today, the association has around 115 institutional members.

OpTecBB is active in photonics and quantum technologies for communication and sensor technology, optical analysis, lighting technology, biophotonics and ophthalmic optics, laser technology and microsystems technology. It also provides support in securing skilled workers, foreign trade promotion/trade fairs/internationalization, start-up support, location marketing, PR, policy advice, and lobbying. OpTecBB, as a registered association, is represented by a board elected by the general meeting. The OpTecBB office supports the work of the association and the board.
