Hybrid Integration and Sensing
The department develops hybrid integration technologies for photonic integrated circuits as well as advanced sensing systems. It combines innovative material and technology platforms into highly integrated, compact, and high-performance system solutions for industrial, security, and communication applications.
InP and RF
The department focuses on the development of InP-based lasers, modulators, and detectors and their integration into photonic integrated circuits (PIC). Complemented by RF and IC design, it delivers high-performance solutions for high-speed communication and SWIR sensing systems.
Technology and Infrastructure
The department focuses on the development and operation of advanced technology platforms for photonic components and Photonic Integrated Circuits. It covers the entire process chain from epitaxy and wafer processing to backend and packaging technologies, enabling high-performance solutions for high-speed data transmission, detection, and sensing applications.
Fiber Optical Sensor Systems
The research on novel photonic sensors used in measuring and control systems for early hazard detection, energy management, robotics and medical technology is a focus of the department. The sensors are characterized by extreme miniaturization, excellent communication and network capabilities and high energy efficiency.
