The innovation cluster 5G BERLIN e.V. is a non-profit association that brings together research institutions and industry partners on the topic of 5G. It was established with the goal to initiate and drive innovations related to the new mobile communication standard. 5G BERLIN focuses on testing innovative 5G technologies as well as developing new 5G applications. It serves as an interdisciplinary networking platform in Germany’s capital city, a world-leading location for research and technology. In particular, 5G BERLIN helps to establish strategic partnerships and provides companies with the opportunity to test and further develop 5G technologies for various areas of application both in society and economy.

With the 5G testbed, a unique urban test environment was created on the North Campus of the Technical University of Berlin. The new testbed allows start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research institutions as well as large companies and public authorities to explore their technical innovations and test new 5G application scenarios. The open testbed maps all relevant technology components of a 5G network and operates independently from commercial 5G network operators. This makes it a unique 5G standalone network in Germany featuring a powerful test infrastructure that is completely independent of conventional LTE networks. Therefore, the new testing ground advocates Berlin's position as a key business location and drives digitization in Germany.

5G BERLIN member companies and participating research institutions will find attractive conditions for collaborative or individual research and the continuous development of their innovations. In addition to extensive testing capabilities, a 5G BERLIN membership offers the chance to enter into strategic partnerships with other members and to benefit from the advantages of a unique networking platform.
