As damage in fiber-reinforced structures can only be detected with great effort, pressure vessels made of this material are equipped with very high safety factors that contradict the lightweight concept. Wherever the containers are transported, weight plays a significant role in times of resource conservation and energy efficiency. At this point, the research project "secureSTORAGE" starts, by implementing a new and cost-effective measurement system consisting of optical and electrical sensors in the container. Through the integration of the sensors for permanent or demand-oriented structure monitoring, an additional safety feature is given, which offers the utilization of the highest possible lightweight grade at the same time with maximum safety. The relevant operating parameters temperature and strain allow conclusions to be drawn, for example, on pressure, fill level, load change count, or possible structural damage. As a result, the operational safety can be increased and at the same time the weight of the pressure vessels can be reduced. Technologically, on-site control and remote monitoring by control or certification authorities are enabled.
