Sensors for exploration of seabed in shallow water
Internal financial support: Fraunhofer program "Prepare", project titel: NEXT GENERATION ULTRA-HIGH-RESOLUTION SEISMIC STREAMER
Period of time: April 2023 – December 2026
The efficient expansion of offshore infrastructure, especially offshore wind energy, represents a major global challenge in the context of the energy transition. Complex foundation and installation work for any offshore infrastructure can only be carried out with reliable, cost- and time-optimized subsoil exploration. The highly accurate mapping of the subsoil using geophysical (seismic) methods is a crucial part of this and allows the mapping of sediment layers and geological structures in the seabed. The project therefore aims to develop a new type of seismic multi-channel measurement system (streamer) that meets the high demands of the offshore wind industry in terms of the vertical and lateral resolution of the data collected. Within the research project – internal funded by Fraunhofer – the integration of new types of micro-sensor and fiber optic sensor technology in the project consortium of the three Fraunhofer Institutes IWES, IZM, and HHI is developed.
