Extinguishing systems and emergency concepts for the safe handling of battery fires over the entire product life cycle
Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), Grant 16BZF302E
Duration: September 2022 - February 2026
The success of the energy and transportation transition depends largely on the use of new energy sources such as batteries. Although electromobility is now widely used, there are still hardly any technical solutions and standards for managing the fire safety risks associated with batteries. The aim of the SUVEREN2Use project is to create the necessary fire safety across the entire battery value chain. To this end, the Fraunhofer HHI is conducting extensive battery fire tests in cooperation with industrial partners such as FOGTEC Brandschutz GmbH, in which various concepts for extinguishing and preventing battery fires are being investigated.
The project is based on the findings of the previous project SUVEREN, in which the influence of new energy sources in vehicles on safety in underground transportation systems was investigated.
